To add unlike denominators, you must find the L.C.M. (least common multiple)

5/8 + 1/6 =

L.C.M. for 6 and 8
8, 16, 24, 32
6, 12, 18, 24

5/8
8x3 = 24
5x3 = 15 Whatever you do to the top, you must do to the bottom.

6x4 = 24
1x4 = 4

15/24 + 4/24 = 19/24
