Measures of Central Tendency

A value that represents the centre of a data set.
Can be the mean, median, or mode
Data set is a group of number that you must arrange in order from least to greates.

Median- the middle number
mode-most
mean-average
range- start to the end
outlier-larger value

Geometry-April30,2012 notes

  • Parallel lines- lines in the same plane that never cross or intersect
  • Intersecting- lines in the same plane that meet or cross
  • Perpendicular-lines in the same plane that intersect at 90degree angle
  • Line segment- piece of a line with starting a end point

May2,2012 notes

Angle Bisector- a line that divides an angle into 2 equal pars
-equal angle are worked with the same symbol

1. compass point at angle vertex, make an arc through both arms
2. compass point at vertex of 1st arc and one arm make another arc
3. repeat step 2 on other arm
4.draw line from arc intersection to angle vertex

May1,2012 notes

Bisect- is to cut in 2 equal parts
Perpendicular bisector-a line that divides another like segment in half and meets at right angles
1. open compass to just over half way of the line
2. share point at point a make an arc
3.share point at point b make an arc
4.with a ruler join the 2 intersection of the arc

BEDMAS Questions

BEDMAS
8 + 6 x 2 x 3 - ( 15 - 13 )
what to do first?
Brackets (15-13)=2
Then you write the question again BUT with the answer you got from answering what was in the brackets
8+6x2x3-2
After brackets you look at Exponents, since there is no exponents you go to the next one which is Division and Multiplication. You ask yourself, is there any division or multiplication in this question? The answer is YES! You answer the multiplaction question....2x3=6 then write the question again but with the answer you got for answering the multiplaction question
8+6x6-2
Since there is still a multiplaction question you must multiply it! 6x6=36
Finally Addition and Subtraction. You ask yourself, is there any addition or subtraction question? The anwser is YES! 8+36=44
44-2=42
The final answer is 42!
8+6x2x3-(15-13)
8+6x2x3-2
8+6x6-2
8+36-2
44-2
42

Mental Math

Mental Math means to do a math question in your head. Or meaning to show how you answered the question.

For example: 3659+2659=6318 mental math is showing how you got that answer. step by step.

9+9=18

50+50=100

600+600=1200

3000+2000=5000

5000+1200= 6200

6200+100= 6300

6300+18=6318

The question we got today

A group of students are talking, 2 friends leave the group. Write an expression of the number of students in the group after the 2 leave.

Answer: S-2 The `S` stands for Students. Since 2 lef t you minus 2! S-2

What We Learned Today (:

Variable - a letter that represents an unknown number
eg: X,A,N Variable is a letter

Expression - any single number or variable or combination of operation (-,+,x,/) involving numbers and variable eg: 5,n,8+,x+1,2y-7

Value - calculated amount

Numerical Coeffiecent - a number that multiplies the variable eg: 2t the 2 is the numerical coefficent and the `t` is the variable

Divisibility Rules

Rule for 1- All whole numbers are divisible by 1

Rule for 2- All even numbers are divisible by 2 twice

Rule for 3- The sum of te digits is divisible by 3

Rule for 4- 4=2x2 all numbers divisible by 2

Rule for 5- All numbers endig in 0 or 5 eg: 5,10,15,20,25....

Rule for 6-If the number is divisible 2 and 3

Rule for 7- Use a calculator!

Rule for 8- 8=2x2x2 All numbers divisible by 2 thrice

Rule for 9- The sum of the digits is divisible by 9

Rule for 10- All numbers ending in 0 or 5 eg:10,20,30,40,50

Subtracting Fractions like denominators

Subtracting fractions with the same denominators is basically just subtracting the numerator. The denominator stays the same.

For example:

This is a very good video. It helps you understand to keep the denominator the same for addition and subtraction while you learn it in a fun way. Hope you enjoy it!

Page 214 Question and Answer for #9

What is the sum of each fraction statement? Write answer in lowest term.

Sum means the answer of a addition question.

Addend
+Addend
-------------
Sum

Lowest term is to reduce the fraction. which means you find a number that goes into the numerator and denominator. For example 2/6=1/3 the number that goes into 2 and 6 is 2. 2 goes into 2 once and 2 goes into 6 three times. Numerator is the number at the top- and denominator means the number that is at the bottom_.

Numerator
------------
Denominator

Adding Like Denominators

a) 1/7 + 2/7= 3/7
b) 5/12 + 5/12 = 10/12 or 5/6
c) 1/3 + 1/3=2/3
d) 4/9 +2/9= 6/9 or 2/3
e) 3/10 +7/10= 10/10 or 1

You only add the numerator and leave the denominator the same. If possible reduce the fraction into its lowest term.

Chapter 4 Review Test

Find 25% of 84

Use a Ratio Table to help you find the answer. First put 100 under the percent side because percent is always out of 100. Beside it on the number side put 84. From there you divide by 2.

You divide by 2. 100/2=50 50/2=25. What ever you do on one said you Always do to the other side! 84/2=42 42/2=21

Remember! Whatever you do on one side, you always have to do the other side.

The answer for 25% of 84 is 21
