BEDMAS question on February 10
The V with the line means square root. We didn't learn much about it. Isfeld did however tell me it was almost like dividing so you add it in with division and multiplication. You would do the square root after brackets and exponents before division because it goes left to right.
The rest is the same thing we usually do:
Brackets
exponents

Expression Word Problem:
A group of students are talking. 2 friends leave. Write an expression for the number of students in the group after the 2 leave...
The answer? S-2 or G-2
why?
well the question says "a group of students" it doesn't tell us how many students are in the group. Therefore we use a Variable since the number is unknown.
Also it is -2 because the question states that 2 students Leave the group.
S stands for Students &
G stands for Group.
You could use either one in this question.

Value, Constant & numerical coefficient

Constant: a number that does not change and it increases or decreases the value of an expression
Expression

What is an Expression?
Any single number or variable OR a combination of operations (x,÷, +,-). Involving numbers and variables (X, T, S, G)
Expressions can be simple (T+1) or confusing(x-t+Y-4)

Adding with Unlike Denominators

1) Find the common denominator
LCM(lowest common Multiple) of 1/4 and 1/6 is 12
-Multiple: the product of any given number and natural number like 1,2,3
Multiples is just skip counting
eg: some multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18
Some multuples of 5 are 6, 12, 18 24
So the LCM(lowest common multiple) of 4 and 6 is 12

Subtracting Fractions
- You Subtract the numerators (top numbers) and you put your answer over the same denominator(bottom number) Simplest terms: half of 8 is 4 so...
4/8 is equal to 1/2

Chapter 4 Review: Page 146 #5
Question: Use the number line to help answer the questions that follow.A) What is the fraction Value of A? 1/8
B) What is a number at B
expressed as a Percent? 75%
C) What is the decimal value of C? 1.25
How I got my answers:
A) As you can see in the image above half of the whole is 1/2 (4/8)
so three less then that would be 1/8
B) B is equal to 3/4. 3/4 is equal to 75%
C) C is after the whole which automatically makes it 1. it is also a quarter after
the whole so the answer would be 1.25

1) -are there any brakets? No
2) -are there any exponents? No
2) -are there any exponents? No
3) -is there any multiplication or division? Yes, Both. You have to work from left to right so I have to multiply first then divide and everything else falls down.
4x3+12÷2
12+12÷2
12+6
4)- Is there any addition or subtraction? yes addition.
18
And that is how i got my answer.
