Mean - Add up all the values then you divide by how many values there are.
Median - The middle number in a set of ordered values, might be the mean of 2 middle values.
Mode - The value that shows up the most.
Range - Positive differences between the largest and smallest values.
Outlier - Values that are too big or too small compared to the other values.
Make sure you know these definitions! They will be on the exam!

What is a variable?
A variable is an unknown number.
What is an expression?
An expression contains variables, operations, and numbers in any combination.

Integers
Negative numbers: represent values below zero and positive numbers represent values about zero
Example: Above and below ground or sea level
1 + (-2) = (-1) This is an addition statement.
3 - (-1) = 4 This is a subtraction statement.
Opposite integers: have the same numeral but different sign. Example: 3 and (-3)

(+,+) Quadrant l
(-,+) Quadrant ll
(-,-) Quadrant lll
(+,-) Quadrant lV

(+,-) Quadrant lV
Make sure you know each quadrant sign for the exam!
Transformations
Transformations:
Translations - Slide along a straight line.
Rotation: Turn about a fixed point.
Reflection: Mirror image.
Make sure you know how to do and describe each of them.

Adding Mixed Numbers.
What is a mixed number? A number made up of a whole number and a fraction such as:

Try this:

Step 1) Deal with fractions. Already has common denominator.

Step 2) Deal with whole numbers.

Step 3) Combine whole numbers and fractions.

February 9, 2012: BEDMAS Question.
Question:

Is there any brackets? No.
Is there any exponents? Yes, go from left to right.

Exponent: 8x8=64.
Then you rewrite the rest.
Now you do the other exponent.

Exponent: 2x2=4
After that, you do the division.

That equals:

Expression Word Problem:
A group of students are talking, 2 friends leave the group. Write an expression for the number of students in the group after the 2 friends leave!
My answer to this word problem is: S-2 or it can also be G-2. Do you want to know why?
Explanation: It says on the question that there are a group of students so we don't know how many there are. Therefore we use a Variable to represent an unknown number.
We can use S - Students or G - Group as the variable.
The next thing it says on the word problem is that are 2 friends that left the group! That's why my answer is S-2 or G-2.
Value, Constant, Numerical Coefficient.
Value - A known or calculated amount.
Constant - A number that does not change. It increases or decreases the value of an expression.
Numerical coefficient - A number that multiples the variable.
Variable and Expression.
Variable - A letter that represents an unknown number.
- It also means something we don't know, or haven't figured out yet.
Example: x, a, or n.
Expression: Any single number or variable or combination of operations. Examples of operations are ( -, +. x) Involving numbers and variables.
Example: 5, n, 8t, x+1, 2y -7.

Numerator and Denominator
What is a numerator and a denominator?
- A numerator is the top number of a fraction that tells us how many parts of the whole we have or are dealing with.
Example:

- A denominator is the bottom number of a fraction that tells us how many equal parts of the whole is divided into.

Prime Factors
What is a prime factor?
1) Prime factor is a number with only two factors. 1 and itself.
2) Prime factor goes into a number with no remainder or a decimal.
Try this!
1) Find all prime factors of 18.
Another way to find the prime factors of 18 or any other number is called a Factor Tree!

Chapter Four Review Test:
This is one question on the Chapter Four Review Test: Page 146.
4. Use a ratio table to show your answer.
d) 75 % of 124

- The answer for this question would be 93.
Remember! What you do to one side, you have to do to the other side!

Order Of Operations

1. The first thing I did was look for Brackets.
As you can see there aren't any. So I went to Exponents. No exponents either.
So I did the Multiplication first.
2. After that I looked for the Division
3. I did the Addition after that.
4. 12 + 6 gave me 18 the answer!
Here is a video that may also help you with Order Of Operations! 2. After that I looked for the Division
3. I did the Addition after that.
4. 12 + 6 gave me 18 the answer!
Order Of Operation! Check it out!
