Lowest terms For Fractions. Step By Step.

Example: 3 1

4 6

Step 1: Find the common denominator for 4 and 6.
4 - 4, 8 , 12
6 - 6, 12, 18 The common denominator is 12

Step 2 : Write the equivalent fractions using the common denominator.

3 x3 9 1 x2 2
-- = -- -- = --
4 x3 12 6 x2 12

Step 3 : Rewrite the question using the common denominator. It is solved

3 1 9 2
-- - -- = -- - --
4 6 12 12

- 9 - 2
----------
12

= 7
--
12
