Adding Mixed Numbers

A mixed number is a number made up of a whole number and a fraction such as..
1 2/3
not 2 3/2

Deal with the whole numbers first

eg. 1 1/3 + 1 1/3

This question already has a common denominator

Deal with whole numbers

1+1=2

Now deal with the fractions

In this case its 1/3 + 1/3

They both have a common denominator

1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3

Combine the whole numbers and fractions

2 + 2/3 = 2 2/3

  1. This post is okay, but you shouldn't space it too much.

  2. Good job on explaining how to add mixed numbers! I like how you explained it step by step to make it easier for us to understand! Maybe next time you should add more color to make the important words stand out, and you shouldn't space it out too much! Other than that, great job Jessie! Keep it up!
